Hack Windows with style.

February 24th, 2005 by retsoced

So Bill asked me a bit ago about changing the login window image for windows, you all know which one I'm talking about...

At first I was like, "hmmmmm, I'm not sure how do that..." After a bit of snooping, I found reshacker again, and figured it out. Actually, Bill (IT guy from work) got me going yesterday with the Group Policy snap-in and changing text all over the place. I like dorking with windows, the messages and dialogues are so sanitized and generic, that I felt they needed a personal touch.

So by opening the RUN command in the Start menu, I entered gpedit.msc, and wappow! Up came the GP snap-in and away I went. This thing is powerful - I can't even begin to know what all you can do with it, but it's cool.

Back to reshacker. I added a new image to my login, logout and locked screens using reshacker and editing the bmp files in the msgina.dll file in the system32 directory for Windows. It took me a bit to figure everything out and I had to add a line to the registry to get it work with the new version of the .dll file - but all is good. There's actually some excellent info on Microsoft's site, go figure. As well as a ton of others.

Just be sure to SAVE AS(in reshacker) and edit the registry using regedit, in case you blow it, so you can boot your machine again.

My 2 favorites combined

Hehehe... this reminds me of those old Peanut butter Cup commercials where the d00d bumps into another d00d and drops half his chocolate bar into a jar of peanut butter.

Google & Firefox

Stands to reason right? The best search engine in the world teaming up with the best Browser? Makes good sense to me. You better watch your P's & Q's Billy, they're gunnin' for ya!

It was nice living in a real city…

February 23rd, 2005 by retsoced

So this movie is out. I don't get to see it because I live in a small town - in the middle of BFE....

House of Flying Daggers
These are the movies I live for. Even without seeing it yet, I know it will be spectacular and I cannot wait until it comes to the DVD segment of my life. I went and saw the last Jet Li movie, HERO, and it too was a splendid peice of cinematography. The fight sequences were dynamic strings classic Kung Fu inter-mingling with the plot to produce an exceptional movie I would recommend any one to see. It was not over complictaed and the subtitles melted away beneath the draw of the movie.

Since House of Flying Daggers is directed by Zhang Yimou (who also directed HERO), I expect to be equally captivated by it's classic cinematic qualities. Of course all I have to go on are the trailers and teasers, but they are quite compelling. Ziyi Zhang(from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) also stars in the movie, along with Takeshi Kaneshiro and Andy Lau.

You can check out the site here at Sony Pictures.

I also found this site for HERO, it's all in Japanese - but it's an excellent site.

Hehehehe... as my wife put it; "What a cute little peanut". Pretty much sums it up. Man, kids really look like their folks - Ted, that's your daughter man - no doubt about it. I haven't met Dawne yet, but I'm sure she's in there too - but there seems to be a whole lotta Ted - even the hair. LOOK AT ALL THAT HAIR!

Congrats you two (err... three) - happy parenting.

Only 2 last hold-outs.

Congratulations to Ted and Dawne on their little girl Ella madison, born on February 6th, 2005.

I am down to 2 high-school friends now that don't have kids: Craig & Brandon. I guess they better get on the ball, huh?

Hehehehe.... Ted's a papa... whodathunkit?
